Connections Chart 2021

In English my class we are currently writing and creating our own connections graph on 4 different films we have watched, we then wrote down 3-4 different themes and figured out what film connects to each theme. For example, the film 'Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone' the main theme for that film would be death and magic whereas, in the film Fantastic Beasts and where to find them it does share the theme of magic, but its other main theme is not death but "the fear of things we don't understand and also how people react to that fear by taking extremes." They do have similarities and connections to each other even though they are two seperate films.

Newspaper painting

Newspaper assessment.
My learning outcome for my coating assessment is to have vibrant colours showing, which also allows the words I have chosen to show vividly and to be noticeable by the audience almost straight away.
I aim to have a finish product with smooth layers of paint, bold colours and to have a full coverage of the newspaper. I will be using wet and dry media.

In this newspaper assessment I have chosen an artwork which contains 9 bold colours which are, red, a vibrant yellow, ocean blue, baby blue, maroon, forest green, violet purple, dark purple/maroon and a normal purple. I have chosen these specific colours because, I will be using the white as more of a base colour to let the other colours come out bold and vibrant, the red and yellow colours will be used as pattern colours as well as the black paint. I will also be using a very thin sharp edged painting brush with the black to create fine lines boxing each word I have chosen to keep. I think doing so will help showcase the words a lot more, and will make them look much more bolder and gives them a defined look. Once I am finished painting the background and all the basics, I will then move on to adding islander themed patterns around the newspaper and do quick sketches for examples, so I know what I want to use and what would seem to fit better. for the patterns, I will be using all the colours allowed to then make the patterns pop and stand out more and I hope this will give it more definitions.

These are before and after of where I have started at, I have changed up my stroking techniques and decided to put the colours in individual square shapes, except the baby blue one, that is shown to curve around the violet purple. I chose to create this type of layout because I feel that it would catch the audience's attention more, because I have used a variety of colours and they are fun colours. I just need to draw on my patterns, and like said in the previous paragraph, I will be doing my pacific patterns.

Art-Kaupapa Part 1

What is my Art Kaupapa?
This year for Art I will be focusing on Peace/equality and Political as my Kaupapa.

The reason I have chosen this theme is because, it is a certain topic I have been eager to learn towards and it is something that I as a human am apart of. I also feel somewhat strongly towards this theme as I would like to show people the way I view my community/political environment.

The media I have chosen to work with are, Paint/Photography, and my two artists that I have selected for 1.1 are Lisa Reihana and Sofia Minson which are from list one, and Shepard Fairey and Banksy which are from list two. My last artist I have chosen from list 1.2 and 1.4 is Photo Roman.

Here is a Photo of my Mood Board that I have been working on, this is where I gained my knowledge about the different types of artworks, techniques used in art, and artists.

Climate Change-Global Warming

Climate Change

What is the Greenhouse Effect?Greenhouse gases reflect gases back onto the earth and then reheats the earth back up.

Effects of Global Warming-
  • The effects of global warming have an average increase in temperatures/extreme temperatures
  • Extreme weather events
  • The melting of Ice
  • The pollution in sea levels and the ocean acidification
  • The deaths of animals and different types of species
  • Social effects

Here are the statistics on sea levels-
-The rising of sea levels.
-The meltings of glaciers have a 20% contribution to the rising of the sea
-Greenland's ice sheet has contributed with percentage of 25%
-The Antarctic ice sheet has a contribution of 11%
-Our land water storage has a contribution of 10%
-The ocean thermal expansion has a contribution of 30%

What is the solution to climate change?
Some solutions could be-
-Exterminating the burnings of fossil fuels
-Irrigation demands
-Fertiliser use
-Size of land available for food crops
-Cost of food for human consumption
-Pesticide use
-Deforestation required to make space for crops
-Renewable form of energy

Climate change.

Greta Thunberg
My perspective on Greta Thunberg is that I think she had a point and she is trying to get her point across the globe, I feel that her point was mainly aimed at highly praised people/powerful people/adults. It was very appropriate to approach her statement like that, so people know how much this affects her, mentally and economically. I feel that she wants people to know how she feels about climate changes and how they're affecting the human race and lifespan of everything.

'Hysterical' Thunberg
I think that the adult's reactions were very unnecessary and unkind to how they shared their emotions, I feel that they could've given their point of view in a different approach and that it wasn't necessary to make a mockery of a 16-year-old who's trying to change the world, and make a change to the climate. I feel that the ones that looked immature were the ones that gave a disrespectful statement and some that even made advertisements on her "stupidity".

What does the presenter suggest?
I feel that the presenter was in the both for agreeing and disagreeing, I feel that he understood her points and agreed, but I also feel he was thinking it was maybe a little over the top, but he understood that she should be learning rather than being afraid of her future and what might happen.

How are the children constructed?
They are shown to be the victims of climate change, and that adults are depending too much on them, they are portrayed to be something they're not. They are too young to be worrying about their future. They are the victims of something big yet to come which could be changed or happen tragically.

What is the viewer's position?
They can either agree or disagree.
